On February 21, 1919 at the Civic Auditorium in San Francisco world lightweight champion Benny Leonard fought Willie Ritchie in a non title affair. Ritchie prevailed winning a 4 round decision. Newspaper decision was a draw, or a slight win for Ritchie (San Francisco Chronicle). Wire reports said Ritchie was the clear winner. (Calgary Daily Herald).
