Joe Louis was born on May 13, 1914 in Lafayette, Alabama. On June 22, 1937 he won the World Heavyweight Title from James J. Braddock. He retired after losing to Rocky Marciano on October 26, 1951. His final record was 63-3. Offered here is a wire photo, dated September 23, 1935, depicting Louis posing (left to right) with his assistant manager Black, trainer Jack Blackburn, manager John Roxborough and tutor Cowan. This was the early team of Joe Louis.
This is a rare, original, Associated Press wire photo with their stamp and caption on the back. A rare shot of Louis with his early team. Bold, clear image. Clean front and back. Tiny creases in right corners. No tears. 7" x 9." Terrific image.
