Jack Dempsey fought Tom Gibbons on July 4, 1923. Dempsey won by decision after 15 rounds to successfully defend his World Heavyweight Title. The fight was held in Shelby, Montana and nearly bankrupted the town. It was forever more known as the "Rape Of Shelby." Offered here is an original, first generation photograph of Jack Kearns, the manager of Jack Dempsey, taken on July 2, 1923, two days before this fight.
