James J. Corbett was born on September 1, 1866 in San Francisco, California. He won the World Heavyweight Title from John L. Sullivan on September 7, 1892. He retired after losing to Jim Jeffries on August 14, 1903 with a final record of 11-4-2 with 2 no contests and 7 KO's. Presented here is a cabinet card of Corbett in period dress by noted photographer Elmer Chickering. Dated 1896 while Corbett was world heavyweight champion.
This cabinet card of Corbett measures 4 1/4"by 6 1/2". The card shows just very minor wear to the edges and corner. There is the number 33 and copyright date stamped on the front. The back has some writing in pencil adjacent to the Chickering stamp. The image is vivid. Not creased. Clean.
